My name is Alex Washington. I am now a soldier. It was an early monday morning, and my friend Josh Willibey was thinking about being in the army. We both came from a small town in missouri. We were drafted into Genral Bauregard's army, and this was not by choice. This whole thing made me very mad. We were so young and scared. It was intimidating, and I heard about General Bauregard and how fierce he was. Josh and I are in this and whish we weren't. It was a crazy past couple weeks with all the training and talks, but i know it's all necessary. The army have now reached an island called Charleston Harbor in South Carloina, and we are waiting to attack Fort Sumter. The fort is being held by General Lee's Union army. In other words the northerners. Most people in the south, and especially South Carolina don't like this at all. So thats why we are here...To take it from them. Our Geneeral gave us orders to start on our marsh to the fort and I was very nevous about this. Josh started to like the army life, but i absolutely did not. General Bauregard's first oder when we got close to Sumter was to cut off the Unions supplies. We knew soon enough they would be needing thier resources, and luckily we prevailed! When we got to the fort we ordered General Lee to evacuate the fort right away, but he refused. After that we opened fire. The gun shots were like wounds to my ears, and every shot got louder and louder. Marching toward the fort made me want to run away, but i knoew that was not an option ast this point. The Union finally surrendered, and we captured the fort. After we "won' the battle against General Lee's troops, The Civil War had begun. Knowing this scared me in a way i cant even begin to explain. The fact that a huge war will now break out made me think of my family and home, and how i could lose all that to fighting in a war i didn't even want to be a part of in the first place. What else can i do? Nothing, and i know im stuck here until its over. Josh was shot right infron of me as we tried to capture Fort Sumter. I think this journey will be the longest one i will ever have to face. Alone too, i havce no other friends here, but maybe i'll make it through. Hopefully anyway. After the battle, South Carolina was the first state to secede, and bacome part of the Confederate States of America. We left the Fort as the "champions", but who knows how long or victory streak will last. I hope it's long.
